I have recently reformatted my computer using Xp Pro, and I am having problems when updating. All the security updates go through, yet when I attempt to install the SP2, it freezes, forever. When I try to uninstall the SP, it freezes. Anyone know any fixes besides buying a new copy of windows, or reformatting?

Download N-Lite and slipstream SP2 onto your windows installation disk. While you're at it, you can slipstream all the updates onto the disk too. That's what I use. When I load windows with that, it's completely up to date and ready to go.

You can check out this linky for step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

that is wayyy to difficult for me, i can barely navigate the site, arent there any windows FAQs that dont lead me around in a loop?

you would think so but no, not that i have found. the best way is to use either nlite as posted
above or to use XPCREATE.
personally i prefer xpcreate but to each his own i suppose

from the problems you describe you could also try just downloading the updates and burning
them to a disc to try installing from that after windows is installed and before connecting
to the internet. though i dont recommend it, some updates have to be in a specific order
and the best way is to slipstream them into the source. but you could try it with sp2 at least

Click on "Beginner's Guide" on the Uppert left and go through each step... Introduction, creating a source, etc....
Read everything, he gives you links on where to get all the required downloads.

If you google Autostreamer, it will let you make the slipstreamed disc. It's definitely the easiest way.

If sp2 does not install for you then you have driver or hardware issuse on your computer.

Check to make sure your hard drive and ram are ok. Run memtest for about an hour and also your hard drives manufacturers diagnostic tool.
