My friend just bought a hp pavilion p6230y. He wants to buy a graphics card in the $100-$200 price range. He plays a lot of games such as COD and BF2.

I'm not too familiar with the specific comptuer, but what I have been able to find out online is that it has a 300 watt power supply and it does have a PCI-E slot.. not sure if it's 2.0 or not.

TIA!

Replace the PSU, get a quality 400-500w unit and take that out of the graphics card budget. You should still be able to swing a Radeon HD 4890 if you look around a little or go used.

He prefers ATI... I'm more of a NVIDIA fanboy myself.

He's also looking to purchase the Corsair 650 Watt Powersupply.

As said before, get a good PSU and look for a nice used card (in fact look for a nice used PSU if you need to),. A 4890or nvidia gtx280 used should still be within budget.

Judging from the User that he bought a branded PC, I dont think that your friend is gonna update regularly like the NORMAL users here :D So get him/her a HD5770, so that they can use Dx11 and seeing the reviews it is almost at par with GTX260. No use getting the same range old gen card.
And yes a PSU will be good too, but before that head over here and check the watts needed, IF you are fine then no need to get the PSU too.
