Need upgrade Advice.

Hey all,

Here is the deal, I have 250$ that I would like to put into my system. I am very unsure as to where I should put it, so I am asking for your opinions as to where the money would be best spent.

Here is my system:
amd athlon thouroughbred 2500+
512 PC2100 DDR
MSI k7n2 Delta
30 gig Maxtor 7200
60 Gig MDT 7200
GF3 TI
Plextor DVD+/- R/RW CD r/r Burner

if this pc is for gaming, videocard, if its for... anything else you could use another 512 stick of ram, it never hurts

i don't know how well the ati 9x00 series scales w/ cpu's, but a 9600 and maybe another 512 of ram would fit in that budget nicely. or you could just get a 9800 w/ that

depends on what your usage is.

You need a vid card my friend if your into games.

Id just wait it out and save for the ATI X800 and or X880 or the nVidia GeForce FX 6800. Due out soon. Maybe even today? I dunno.

If your not into games, get a another stick of RAM, or get 2 new sticks of faster RAM, and or see if you mobo supports the faster procs and get one.

Hm. I don't believe the 2500+s ever came as thoroughbreds. Only Bartons, and mobile. They're pretty decent proccies, and you could always try overclocking them. With a bit of voltage, 2.2GHz (3200+) is pretty achievable.

Wait a minute, you've got PC2100. So is it really a Tbred? What's your FSB at? Cos if it's at 333 and your memory's at 266, that's BAAD. Never ever run Async with AMD processors, the latency will kill any performance.

I have two recommendations. Either get 512MB of DDR400 (you could try overclocking that baby... ) or a new video card. I'd get a 5900XT, they''re cheaper than the 9800 series and can be overclocked to almost around the same performance level.
