So i need a relatively cheap computer just for doing some basic things... I already have a graphics card, hard drive and dvd rom drives...

I need, a case, processor, power supply, motherboard and memory..

for processor I was looking at the 2500+ barton, everything else im coming up blank... any help? 512 mb of memory would be ideal, budget being under $500

for memory I just grabbed a stick of mushkin 512mb ddr 400 memory...

i have no idea what do about the case, I want it to be cheap but not cheap in quality :) and preferably with a good power supply as well...

or just check out the Antec cases. Cheap good quality stuff with good power supplies.

I just built a cheap PC (also with a 2500 and mushkin ram) with this case, and I had no complaints about it.

ah thanks, that case does look good and I guess I could use it later on as well...

so now i've got everything I need cheaply, but the only question is about the mobo? Im unfarmiliar as to whats best for the chip, but I just looked at a mobo and this is what seemed decent..

question, would it be more beneficial to get 2x256 mb of 1x512mb ? Does the motherboard utilize bridging them?

Well, it all depends on what exactly it is you want/need. But you're on the right track since you definitely want the NForce2 chipset (well, at least you can't go wrong with it). Do you want SATA? Gigabit ethernet? Do you plan on OCing? There's cheaper boards out there that can fit the bill depending on what you're looking for. I bought http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-419&depa=0 (mainly because a Shuttle one I was looking for wasn't in stock) for a system fairly recently and it's been doing great.

The benefits of dual channel configurations on AMD are negligible, basically (2-5% performance increases? People will correct me on this if I'm wrong). I'd go for whatever is cheaper.

To bad there is not a Fry's near you. They have pretty good bundles.....
