Do these conroe processors come with a thermal pad eliminating the need to use thermal paste? And if not, do they come with thermal paste? I don't want to overclock anything, just keep everything stable at stock.

i am not sure as to what they come with, but i am pretty sure even if they dont come with anything, you want to have some type of thermal paste on it. Er...you have to have thermal paste on it. There is no big change in Conroe that would eliminate the need for this.

They do come with some form of thermal interface material, which is suitable for stock operation. For overclocking, you will need to use proper compound to get decent results.

The heatsink that it comes with will most likely have some sort of thermal pad on it or a square of thermal paste that is pre-applied. My recommendation however, is that even though it does come with stock stuff that youg et AS5 anyway, thats what i did after running it on the stock stuff for a few weeks and it instantly dropped my temps 5C...that just shows you how good that stuff is. Even though you arent overclocking, its always good to have your processor as cool as possible so that the fan on your heatsink doesnt have to run so fast and will save you a little noise.

The stock HSF is more than adequate for Conroes at stock, even with the TIM that comes on it. I've seen people who say it doesn't even spin until it's on for a while.
