Ok I have an aging system it is over 2 years old now and I just got HL2.
Anyways I guess it really is starting to suck. HL2 takes forever to load and constantly takes forever to load in the middle of the levels. Also I cannot seem to run all the details on high with AA and AF enabled.
Specs are
Early N-force2 333FSB OCed to 400FSB (Max is 400 anything above crashes)
1700+ OC to 2400MHZ 400FSB
3 WD 80 Gig 7200 RPM 8 Meg Buffer Drives in Raid 0 with a Highpoint rocketraid 4 channel card (Can add one more but requires a formatt)
ATI 9800np Flashed to a Pro (then OCed more)
Old Corsair PC3200 C2 (I think this chip is over 3 years old now) It was the best available when I purchased it for a ridiculous price, but I htink I have gotten good use of it. I bought it when KT333 chipset was the best out before I could even reach 400FSB.
I was looking at new video cards but it does not appear they are significantly faster yet? I mean, not $500 faster
and I have not come across any cool OC's for them such as what I did to my np to pro. Waiting for another opertunity such as this.
Anyways I think my system is lacking in my memory department but I am afraid to buy memory that is now the minimum. I was thinkcing about goign for another 512 megs however this brings up 2 issues.
1) Should I buy memory that is faster than 3200 C2 for future upgrade?
2) What about DDR2 is it worth the jump yet?
3) Mine is Older Corsair PC3200 C2, it uses the samsung chips not the BH6 chips runs at 2,3,3,6 so I'm not sure that even if suggested, I could just pickup a 512 stick of newer corsair and pop it in without either destroying my OC ont he MB to 400FSB or having dual channel compatability issues.
Thanks for the help.
