Need Suggestions For Reliable External Hdd

I'm looking for an external drive to store photos and small videos (nothing fancy, just short v clips taken with our digital cameras.)

Would prefer USB connection but speed is a distant second to reliability and life span.

And yes they will be burned to DVDs, but a well indexed hdd is much more convenient and of course well hold the pics much sooner then a DVD will.
 
Regardless of whichever drive you finally choose, buy a second one and do regular backups of one to the other. That said, I tend to prefer the WD 2.5" drives over the Seagate though one is no more reliable than the other in the grand scheme of things.

You mihgt consider buying the "internal" drive and the drive case separately. I like the cases that support both USB and eSATA. The latter is much faster than the former, but you can't dismount an eSATA drive, at least I can't figure out how to do that.
