Now this is a cs question, if you have nothing useful to say, i dont want you in here at all.

Lately, on certain select servers, i try to connect and cs just closes automatically and sends me back to desktop. It connects about half way to the server and just sends me back to desktop. Any idea why and how can i fix this? The reason im concerned is becuase my clan bought a server from them and i cant connect to it, and the problem is on my end, not theirs. Its not just this company of servers either, it happens on any company's servers, just randomly though. How can i fix this?

Verify your client data (in steam, right click the game, and hit properties, nto sure exactly where it is), update all your drivers (especially video), and update directx if you have nto already done so. I am sorry for the stock answer, but this is the best I can give you

Did the steam updating/defragging/verifying thing and it still did it, so im going to update my drivers/directx and see what happens

Try moving your config to your desktop, open CS, type "revert all" in console, save, and try to connect.

delete clientregistry.blob in your steam directory and restart steam, and then try to join the server.

Ill try that, and miyagi this is for 1.6

edit: Didnt work, still boots me.

Are you trying a different resolution in game than desktop? Or a different refresh rate?

Does "sends me back to the desktop" mean it completely exits and CS is not running at all? For example, does it act the same as when a game crashes?

Yes, it does act the same as if the game completely crashes, its not running in task manager.
Yes i am running a different resolution than on desktop. I run 800x600 or 1024x768 in game and 1280x1024 on desktop (native LCD resolution).

And yes, i am sure im entering a 1.6 server. I would think after 7 years of playing that i would know how :)

well I was playing digital paintball a couple hours ago, and it uses the HL1/CS1.6 engine it and does the same thing to me... I just go relogin steam and it' all fine :)

Sounds like you have IE7. If so, then all HL1 engine based games will do this.

does IE7 cuase it for sure?

Yep. Does it for me too. The workaround obviously is to revert back to IE6. Oddly enough source engine games are not effected which is why the problem really goes unnoticed.
