About a month ago I had a Zalman case that bugged out on me. By bugged out, I mean the top panel with the fan controller, usb ports, and temp readout had problems and started flickering, fans died, and one day when I came home one of the fan controllers had started melting... It was all one piece and couldn't really be replaced without dremel work so I just replaced the case entirely.

The problem I am having is now I am getting a constant Connect and Disconnect of a USB device which shows up as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)." This Connects and promptly Disconnects about every 1-2 seconds. After 5-6 hours it stops, but if I shut down the computer, or it updates and reboots, it comes back.

I have gone through my power settings and disabled usb selective suspending. I have also, to my hilarity and confusion disconnected EVERY USB device from my computer and even gone so far as to disconnect the case USB cables from the motherboard headers with no change.

I have THIS motherboard with a 6800k and 48gb ram. No other problems noted.

sounds like your front usb header got fried. disconnect it and disable it in the bios.
 
Unplug power cable from wall and pull the BIOS battery and let it sit for 10 minutes. Put battery back in and then reset BIOS.

Pray.

If it still is jacked, try booting up with a live Linux cd/usb and see if they are ok or still acting funky. Then reinstall Windows or RMA motherboard or replace out of your own expense.
 
PS. Throw that case in the dumpster or build giant bonfire on it with pallets and diesel fuel.

Ya, me too. I physically disconnected it, but there is no option to just turn the headers off in the bios.

I did this when I swapped cases. I don't need the live cd because I dual boot and it happens on both Windows and Linux and it occurs on both sides, although linux seems to handle it better :/

Hoping to not have to buy another mobo.

Oh, it's already been trashed. This is the case. Zalman H1 Black. In case anyone wants to never buy it.

When I was looking at cases to replace it, I noticed that some of the displays at fry's were so poorly built that even the Zalman plate was on upside down... This is what you get for buying cases from online reviews instead of seeing it in person or waiting for [H] reviews.
 
Since you get issues with 2 different OS'es then the only other thing that MIGHT work is reflashing the BIOS. Other than that, RMA or replacement seems the only recourse.
