Hey folks,

I just completed my new rig build last night. I am currently trying to overclock my e8400 to 3.6 Ghz. This should be easy to reach, however, I think I need some help with my BIOS settings.

I set my FSB to 400 with a 9x multi. Prime95 fails in under 5 seconds, which leads me to believe something is not set up right in my BIOS. When I set "system voltage control" to auto, Prime95 runs fine, except my voltage is at 1.35 in CPU-Z, way too high for only 3.6 Ghz.

I am running a Gigabyte x48-DS4 board, and can't seem to find the missing link in my settings.

I think you have asked and answered your own question here.

If I read this right...
Auto voltage = 1.35 = Works Ok
Manual Voltage = (you didn't say what you set this to) = Fails

So, therefore a manual voltage setting of somewhere between 1.35 and what the other setting you had was is the magic number.

No one can tell you what the magic number is as its different for everybody. You just have to find the lowest voltage that passes Prime OK and you are a winner.

hmmm, just had a really interesting find.

Like I said in my first post, I would get instant Prime95 errors running at stock voltage at 3.6 Ghz.

I went into my BIOS, and under "CPU Voltage Control", instead of having it set at "Normal", I set it at 1.225, which is the STOCK voltage. I no longer am getting instant Prime95 errors.

Feels like something in the BIOS may have been "holding" it back. It isn't the C1E and SpeedStep as I had tried disabling those before, and would still get the Prime95 errors.

Anyways, I'm running it at 1.225V in BIOS (1.2 CPU-Z), full load in Prime95 to see where I stand.
