Ok, I'm about to start building my newest system (when the case arrives, that is) and I think I encountered a problem that some creative modding may take care of, so I need some opinions. I ordered a Thermaltake Tsunami case (which is listed as an extended ATX form factor) and a Tyan Thunder K8W Dual-Opteron MB (also listed as extended ATX form factor), but the more that I examine the internal case pics online the more I think that I am going to have a bit of a clearance issue. If I'm correct, the DIMMs and Heatsink/Fan for the second Opteron are not going to clear some of the drive bays. So here's what I'm thinking: Cut out a section of the bottom (unused) 5.25" bay, Remove the External 3.5" cage completely, and cut a small section out of the top (unused) Internal 3.5" bay. That should take care of the problem, but is there anything that I should know or be careful of before attempting this? Any suggestions?

umm, becareful?... i just hope you know what you're doing... sounds like a good idea but i would rather just return the case and get a new better one

Yeah, I know. Only problem is there aren't many cases out that I like that much. This was one of the only ones that really caught my attention. I'm trying to stay away from the "LANboy" look and go for something a little more professional without getting boring. Maybe I should go into case designing lol

why not make your own case?.. out of acrylic, wood, plastic, etc.. that way you get to go with exactly what you look for

Have you googled the reviews for the case, they may have encountered the same issue you
are having. I'm with wayne on making your own case, but I for one am taking so long to
actually finish my first custom case. Its a learning experience that's actually about a year
into production (I just need to get off my ass and "Just Do It").

i built a case out of a vcr... emptied the insides and drill the appropriate securing holes and devices... locked down the mobo with zip ties... screwed down the harddrive... and double side tape mounted the stripped psu by its heatsink on the top of the harddrive... and sorta hung the modded cd drive with wires tightened by zip ties at the end... and voila, my own case... took me three solid days to do this and by solid, i mean getting up in the morning, go downstairs, work non-stop except for food, bathroom breaks, and then come back up when its 1 or 2 in the morning... the result was great but i hate it cus it overheats and the harddrive died so i m in the process of RMAing it right now... so when i get my harddrive, my only problem left is the heat problem... i may just screw the cd drive and put fans in its place

there's a good chance your hard drive died because you put a stripped PSU right on top of it.
