Need some opinions...

Just grabbed up a refubished Dell SE198WFP 19" widescreen LCD for my son's PC. It arrived today. I paid $85 w/shipping for it.

I plugged it in and it made a strang noise and flickered for about the first 10 mins of use.

I have had it on all day, and hasnt flickered at all (nor made any noises) since.

My son also gamed on it for several hours with no issues...

So, is this a sign of a bad backlight, or is this just a few kinks from storage that just needed to be worked out after it ran for a bit?

Because it is a refurb, I have 21 days with it before they will no longer return it, so I am inclined to wait a week and see if it does it again...

Or, should I just send it back for (hopefully) for a swap.

They all flicker when you first turn them on, but it should only last a few seconds.

What you need to do is turn the display off and leave it off for at least an hour, so it cools completely. Then turn it back on and see if you get the same problem. My guess would be that the power supply is a little flacky until it runs a while. It should not be a big deal in less it get worse.

Good luck

Dave

Was it cold when you pulled it out of the box and fired it up? It's winter in the northern hemisphere and I have no idea where you are, but if the monitor's panel or internals were still cold from sitting on a delivery truck & in a warehouse during shipping it could explain all sorts of strange behavior.

Ahh yes, it was a very cold day actually. It had been in the house a while, but it was in the 20s F.

Then there you go. Once it's warmed up after that initial time, you should be OK as long as you don't continually expose it to cold temperatures.

Enjoy the monitor! =D
