i currently have a 2.4ghz pentium 4 with 512 mb ram, my friend is gonna let me have another stick of 512 and im planning to play WoW with it... thing is my video card absolutely sucks and im planning to get a super uber video card in maybe a year to year and a half? so right now my budget is roughly 100 bucks so i was wondering if you guys recommend something i could use to weather me through the next year or so? might be able to squeeze an extra 40 bucks thats really pushing it! so i was thinking maybe fx 5700? or radeon 9600 pro? any opinions would be greatly appreciated thanks!
 
i think that 9600XT is ur best bet

5700 isnt bad but I'm pretty sure the 9600XT beats it
 
i'd wait for a 6600 AGP, will beat both of those cards hands down, will be out by end of november likely
 
Keep an eye on the 'For Sale' forums. You will find something nicer than what you mentioned if you are willing to let go of around $125. Good luck:)
 
will the 6600 AGP be sold for round 100 bucks also? and is it really going to come out at the end of nov.? or is this just a rumor... not trying to speculate on anything but i have no knowledge watsover on video cards. if its certain to be out at end of nov, i can definitely wait. thanks again

Currently the 6600 series is already out for PCI-E. The agp version, which i'm sure is the format you're using at the moment, will possibly be released by the end of the year.
 
well, i cant really find out a concrete date on when the 6600 for AGP is coming out, and im not sure i wanna wait till teh end of the year cuz WOW comes out nov.22nd roughly and I'd like to play by then so thoughts on fx 5700 vs radeon 9600 pro?
 
for last years series of cards (GeForce 5 versus Radeon 9) you definately want to go ATI. Nvidia fell on their ass last year in comparison. If you can get the XT version of your card, get that...that's just my opinion.

Nvidia cards have traditionally been better at MMORPGs, but then again the fx series was pretty poor at dx9. Toss up I'd say.
 
doh! seems like im doomed either way i go lol.... maybe i should just grab a geforce 4 and hang on for as long as i can?
