Need some new headphones

My PC150s did finnaly break on me. :( So, now I need some new headphones since the microphone on the pc150s still works. I would like them to be closed cans, and I really would like to order from newegg. Price needs to be under $100 definately with something in the $30-$70 range being best.
 
Well, I've also opened up amazon as an option to buy from. They seem to have nearly every Senn headphone ever made. :eek: I am actually using HD457s right now which I traded from my dad's comp. -_- I was looking at the HD212s from Amazon for about $50 with free shipping. Will I notice any increase or decrease with these headphones over my HD457s or PC150s?
 
If your a gamer or watch DVDs with headphones check into surround headphones.

If you are an audiophile and need this, there are a couple high end pairs from sony and I think pioneer that contain multiple speakers for surround.
There are cheaper pairs like what I have that work fine if you arent an audiophile.
 
Problem is that I am both. :X I love to have nice high quality sound and good positioniong for games. But most positioning seems the same to me and I think that the HD212s seem like the best for me. I love Senn headphones and the only problem I have ever had is I can't truly enjoy my music/games/movies when other people are talking etc. And I can't crank them to the volume I want to. While it's not a high volume it's still loud enough to be annoying to someone in the same room.(small room)
 
You don't want surround headphones. They're a gimmick.

What you want is good standard headphones with good attenutation of outside noise. The Senn 280 Pros are rated for -32 db of attenuation. I've seen earplugs rated for less. I've worn the HD-280s and they make the outside world very quiet indeed.
 
The only problem I have with the HD280s is the price. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them. I can try atleast. But are the HD212s a nice alternative?
 
I've never listened to the 212 set. I can't comment on them.

There was a time when The HD-280 set was availible for ~75 at Amazon. Maybe that sale will come again.
 
will the HD280's plug into a computer sound card and will they sound good with games ?
 
Depends where your priorities are.

You gotta understand most of the ppl here are 'audiophiles'.
Its ALL about sound quality.
So of course they demand worldclass headsets like Grado...
and if it doesnt live up to those standards its not considerable.

But if you are a mere audio mortal like myself.. and just interested in experiencing 5 point surround sound without all the speakers.. then one of the many '5.1' headsets might be up your alley.

They are perfect for me at least. But I am considering a midrange 2 speaker set too for music.

As long as the music industry stays with making Stereo king.. the audiophiles wont leave...
but if DVD Audio or some form of surround recording takes hold.. 2 speakers just wont do it anymore.

For games and movies... for the last 10 years or so 2 speakers havent done it in my book.

So the cheaper 5 point headphones like I have are worth it if you can stand the loss of supreme sound quality for better positioning.

That matters most to me, cuz at a LAN party that advantage will really help.

Umm, those things you just linked to *are* "two speaker headsets". They simply have a processing unit that matrixes surround sound into stereo.
 
$800 for a pair of headphones. That's a bit too much I think. Looks like my best option is the HD212s since the HD280s are only at $100 on amazon even though you are saving about $100 from their MSRP. :eek:

EDIT: I ended up getting the HD280s. :)

If thats true (I've never researched those $800 sets and dont really care cuz I'll never buy a pair, but i do doubt neither have more than one speaker), then how do non-surround speakers with only 2 speakers beat out sets with multiple points of sound?
Theres something to those $800 sets that allows them to do DTS surround... versus the free "virtual" algorithms you're using with your standard headphones to achieve surround..

I just doubt that a $100 pair of Sennheisers can match either the Pioneer or Sony surround phones at DVD playback or gaming (or even the cheaper units like what I have). No way.

Show me a software solution that will allow me to experience a true 5 point surround experience in Doom3 on a pair of regular a$$ Sennheisers that can match a set designed to deliver 5points of sound and I'll be a believer...
because if this was possible, every single person would be using it on their regular headphones for games and DVDs on their PC, and it would be packaged with games.
BTW, Aureal is dead. :)

You are paying for the Audio processing unit. They appear to still be only stereo drivers. I would rather have my Grado 325s.
 
What about some nice portable headphones that drown out the outside, but still remain reasonably silent for other people?

Well, if you consider the fact that HD-280s fold, you might consider them portable. If you don't give a rat's ass how you look to the outside world, then you should consider them.
