Hey folks, I've been using some Samson SR850s and my Xonar Essence STX for a while, and I love them, however I believe it may be time for an upgrade with my birthday coming up soon :).

If I wanted a pretty noticeable change in audio quality, how much would I need to spend? These headphones will be used primarily for gaming and music. I'd prefer all arounder headphones because I listen to all kinds of music, and a wide variety of video games as well. Comfiness is important to me as well, my SR850s are somewhat comfortable, but I know that more comfortable headphones exist.
 
Sennheiser 558 if you can afford them. I have the SR850s still and they are my never used backups to my 558s .

For gaming the AKG have the biggest sound stage and footsteps are easily heard but you need an amp and there is no bass. The Philips I have not heard.

The Beyer 880 is good but has a weird sound stage with a hole in the rear!

Seriously, it is hard to hear sounds behind you.

I must admit, the Sennheiser 558's price makes them the most enticing of the bunch.
 
I picked up some new ATH M50's for $109, Love them for gaming and music, I only use them for fps and metal however.
