Currently my setup is as follows:

  • Antec 1030 w/ Antec 350W PSU
    Athlon XP 2000+ (Pal core) w/ thermaltake fan (dont remember which one but has big HS and orange fan)
    SOYO Dragon KT333 Plat. Ed.
    Corsair XMS PC2700 512mb 2-3-3-6
    Gainward Ti4600 Golden Sample
    WD 80GB SE
Now i bought the 2700 ram knowing that i was going to upgrade my cpu, i've just been putting it off forever. I'm sure ppl can relate. My question is, will one of the mobile xp's be able to run on a 166fsb without a problem with my board (ive heard some wierd things about the Via's and mobiles)? Overclocking will definetly be happening, but i need to know how much of a pain in the ass this is going to be, or if i should just get a 2500(non-mobile) and overclock it? For a while i was looking at the 2400 35W mobile, but after doing some research, now i'm not sure if i should get the 2400 or the 2600?
Any input here would be greatly appreciated, but i have got todo something here because i am really starting to see the limitations of the cpu i am currently using (read SLOW).
 
Well you need to be able to manually set the multiplier and the vcore, Can your Soyo do this?

With the mobiles sometimes it's a simple drop in and go to max multi, sometimes the board will go to safe settings, and force the multi low and run at 100MHz...

Best bet is to find someone who a similar setup...

Yes, i can do manual setup. I am also running a VIA chipset, just in case you didn't notice the KT mobo im running. I did try and do a search for other related info based on what i have, but it didn't come back with anything that would help me in this decision, and yes i tried many diff searches in case you were going to ask. I'm hoping to get this figured out today, so i can make my purchase from newegg tonight.
