Heres the deal. I finished a case and tried to implement a BG Micro 2x20 VFD into the side of the case. I pluged it in and everything worked fine.

But if it was on and I tried to remove the side pannel, the VFD would turn funny colors, fade and get bright so I took it out. I tried plugging it in using an outside case but it won't work at all now.

Did the VFD do that because it was screwed to the case which lost its ground when I took the side pannel off?

If that is the case, what should I do with the hole that is left in the case? Buy a new side pannel and do a different mod or can I salvage this?

You could round out the edges and put another window in there. Uhh...

The VFD could have done that because of the differn't magnetic fields that diffferent things in the omputer give off, and when you moved it the field changed. It could also be that it lost ground. Though if you have it hooked up properly and you slide the case off there is still a wire for ground there somewhere, I would think. Other than that I can't think of anything.
