I need some ideas on what to do with this old laptop I just recieved for free. Its a DELL Inspiron 3000 and it works without a problem. It has 64mb of ram and a 3gig hard-drive. Its a pentium II.

I have no clue what to do with it whether I should just junk it or what. Thinking about things I could do with the LCD screen. Do yall have any ideas?

haha your best bet ^... or just run linux on it.... but what are you gonna do in linux....?? i dunno either haha

there are several write-ups floating around the net on turning laptops into digital picture frames. i'd got for something like that.

http://hackaday.com and the make magazize blog i think linked to one.

Make it a router. Put a couple USB NICs on it. Run IPcop.

You could also use it as a server. Put a USB hard drive on it.

Linux is your friend.

Millibit? Methinks you're slightly off on that one as well ^_-

On-topic, in projects like this I always like to see the basic functionality of the device remain intact. Some things you could add include a (semi-)transparant keyboard with LEDs or similar, or you could turn it into a Tablet PC :)

Turn it into an LCD picture frame and put it on the wall. I've seen that done on a couple of mod sites.
