I am looking to build a new system and I am currently looking at at p4 3.0e, AI7 or IC7, and a 6600 gt. Is that a good idea to go with the older components or should I go to socket T. I really don't want to spend more than $600, and ddr2, and 925xe boards are expensive and in the case of the mobo don't seem to have an upgrade path (dual cores). I don't plan on touching the new system for 2 years like my current rig. My big issues are that I already have a nice alpha hs for my current s478 p4, and I have two ide hds and two optical drives, so I would need to upgrade those also thus increasing the cost.

If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate it. I primarily use my computers for gaming and music.
 
go with AGP if your not getting a new video card, get a IC7, or a P4P800 and a 3.2E, and maybe some more ram, and you'll be good to go!

EDIT: sorry, didn't read the post correctly, maybe you should worry about getting a neew video card since you game, maybe a 9800PRO, and then take your leftover money and get a 2.4c and a IC7 and overclock the shit out of your CPU with that beefy alpha, should have enough money for it.
