So, I'm trying to do a IDE with SATA harddrive right now. Of course it will work as I tried it before but the problem is.. the IDE is now loaded with Fedora OS which is for school and I have a drive enclosure for it. I'm trying to run it with my PC so I can do some homework and etc but it doesn't let me load it. Any ideas why?? I unplugged my SATA HD to see if it will run but no luck.. I enabled IDE usage in BIOS and have set harddrive to boot off first. But still no luck. It loads to some MAC thing and continues going...

edit: The drive enclosure is also another IDE cable plug in thing. There's no USB cable to connect it.

Your post is very hard to read and understand.

From what I gather your trying to boot a removable IDE hard drive.
It sounds like you've set the boot order so maybe it just can't see the drive (check the cables) or maybe you've got it connected to the secondary IDE controller (this should still be bootable however).

Sorry if my previous post didn't make sense. I was in a hurry as I was trying to figure out a solution for this issue. But to make it more understanding....

I was trying to connect an IDE harddrive to work with a SATA harddrive. I plugged in the IDE harddrive to the available slot from the motherboard and set the harddrive to master. I boot up the system and nothing comes up, not even my SATA harddrive OS. Only thing that came up was this Client MAC ////// thing. So, instead I unplugged the SATA harddrive and just left the IDE harddrive running and try booting up with it but no luck.

I have already config the BIOs of my motherboard to boot harddrive first than removable device. I have also enabled all available IDE options.

In the end no luck. I can feel that the harddrive is spinning and working but it's not booting up.

You loaded Fedora on this caged HD did you do it at school or on this exact machine?

at this moment I am migrating a Freebsd (unix-like) to a SATA on USB (the mobo
has no sata ports); the process is very exacting, I just wrote a howto on another
forum about it, involving GUI installers, CLI, switching/removing hard disks from
the computer; reworking boot order, etc; ... the description was like 100 lines long
and assumed the reader knew what each command meant (more or less). Moving
hard disk locations something that has to be planned *usually* within a strict
recipe...
...........................................^^^ probably doesn't answer your questions* ^^^ but
are you aware that in unix' (unix, linux, freebsd, etc) there is usually an "fstab" file
which describes the file systems to be mounted at boot? for instance in
freebsd, in migrating the hard disk files, that fstab had to have changed every
"ad0" to "da0" because IDE >> (scsi, sata, etc) device naming. maybe if you
found a way to edit the fstab on that Linux disk (I used a live CD part of the time)
upon reboot the Linux would load, *if* the device names you put in matched exactly
the port and the bios options that the drive is when the machine is booted *and* if
the boot manager knows about the OS to boot into it (given more than one OS), and
if the fixed disk is marked bootable, etc...

i'll need to play around with this tonight. But it's also weird... the USB enclosure device doesn't work at all on my PC. It keeps giving me an error saying USB unknown and can't load . Any way to fix this?
