i am planning on building a new comp

Pentium 4 2.8c
Asus P4C800 DLX
ATI 9800pro AIW
WD 80gb 8mb cache
WD 160gb 8mb cache

and dont know which ram to get,
2x SAMSUNG 512MB PC3200 DDR400 184PIN OEM ($240)

2x DDR400 PC3200 512MB Kingston ValueRAM ($260)

2x DDR400 PC3200 512MB CORSAIR ($234)

2x DDR400 PC3200 512MB CRUCIAL 16T ($300)

2x OCZ 512MB PC-3200 Performance Series ($325)

GEIL GOLDEN DRAGON DUAL CHANNEL 2X512MB PC3200 DDR 2-6-3-3 1T 184PIN WLCSP ($336)

is it alright to buy 2 sticks of 512MB ram instead of buying a kit made for dual channel boards? like the twinx series from corsair?

i do like ocz, i have some pc2700 ram of theres now with no complaints. but if there is a small difference in performance between the ocz/geil and the corsair i would rather save $100 and for the corsair.

i doubt i will be overclocking much at all, i wont be trying to find the max oc my chip can reach, i might just oc it to 3ghz or so. and i wont be upping voltages for memory at all.

if i missed any memory feel free to add any opinions.

(prices are canadian so they arent that expensive ;\)

your showing all ddr 400 it is safe to assume little or no overclocking? IF so get the Mushkin special. It will allow for the tightest tiimings.

You could also go Mushkin pc3500 for 50 less and half the time you will get chips that will do the same 222-5 at 3200

Even if you decide to overclock, DDR400 will be plenty fast since motherboards do have things called dividers which dont hurt performance to use.

I would suggest 1GB of Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1. I just bought the kit off newegg for around $200 a few days ago. I think its went up a few bucks sense but still very reasonable and Mushkin is the best in the business.

ive heard good things about muskin, i looked and i saw 2x512 pc3200 for $285. still lower than the ocz i had listed. it didnt say if it was lvl 1 or not, should i just assume that it is? its listed as "Mushkin 1GB PC3200 CL2 Dual Pack, Blue".

edit: i just found "OCZ Performance Series 1GB PC3500, 2.5-3-3-7, 2 x 512MB Dual Channel, with Copper Heatspreader **SPECIAL ORDER**" for $300.

i thought that was a good price for pc3500, and it will give me a little more head room if i do plan to overclock.

2nd edit: do you guys think i picked a good mobo? i have had excellent experiance with all of my asus mobos, but are there better ones for cheaper or around the same. i dont need raid, or onboard sound, since i will be getting an audigy 2.

The Mushkin memory is better then OCZ although the ones you found may be the Mushkin Blue line which isn't as good as the Mushkin lvl 1. You wont need RAM speed headroom on a P4 board with dividers. Just buy PC3200 or if you can find PC3500 from Mushkin that would be good also. Just dont buy PC3700 or higher because of bad timings.

i did find some pc3500 but it was $100 more, it did state it was lvl 1 though.... i could still justify spending $350 on it, thats what i has budgeted anyways. thanks for the help.
