my system specs are as follows. a7n8x-e, xp2500 (small oc to 1984mhz), 2x256 corsair xms pc3200LL standard cooling.

i currently have a ti4200 128 mb ram vid card. about 5 months ago the fan decided to stop.
it is a visiontek card and they epoxied the hsf on it. i looked all over the web and found the trick of putting it in the freezer. did this and it sounded like glass shattering. i installed a new hsf on it and all was well until about a month or 2 ago. starts locking up in games.
2d apps work fine.

i was wanting to update the vid card and wanted some opinions on which way to go. i have roughly 400 to spend.
i play mostly fps type games and will be getting d3 and hl2.

1. buy the 6800gt = $400

2. buy the 5900xt and another 512 ram ( or sell the 2x256 and get 2x512) = $400

3. buy the 6800 base card pocket the $100 left and i might be able to get 512 at a later date. = $300 and then $200 later for the ram

are there any soft mods for the 6800 base or 5900xt out there.

OR

i have a p4 2.8 800fsb, 2x256 buffalo ram and intel d865glc mb that i could sell and get the gt and 512 ram. i am not really useing it and i think i could get atleast 300 for all this.

i need this to last me for atleast a year and a half at the min.

all the help would be apprectiated
thanks in advance

There is no way I would buy a 5900XT...get the 6800NU...and if you can handle waiting on the memory (are you a chronic multi-tasker?) the GT is just that much better...

I wouldn't touch the FX series with a ten foot pole, and spending money on anything slower than a X800pro doesn't make sense when you have $400 dollars to spend. Get the 6800GT in my opinion.

I vote for option #4. Sell the intel stuff, get the ram and the GT. Some people would sell their blood for the GT right now....but the cookies are great.

well thanks for the replies

so far we have 4 for the 6800nu // 2 for the gt and keep the intel stuff // and 1 for sell the intel stuff get gt and memory.

i was hopeing for some more responses. please

thanks

p.s. if anyone wants to buy the intel stuff let me know.. its never been oced and has never crashed once rock solid. has been running for about 4 months
