hi everyone, this is my first post here... im relatively new to the computer building thing so let me apologize if i come off newbish.
anyways, on to the question! im trying to upgrade my computer so i can have it ready for World of Warcraft and the specs i have are pentium 4 1.7 g (its actually 2.4 cpu but the motherboard doesnt support up to 2.4 ghz) and 512mb ram... so basically im looking for a video card that will run with my setup for World of Warcraft... im looking to spend $100 -$150 and i was wondering what you guys would recommend, im probably gonna be using this video card for maybe the next year to year and a half and im looking for something will last me till then. once again thanks for any help you guys can offer and this forum is great!
 
GET A NEW MOBO!!!!

you always want to use your processor to its full potential. don't cheat yourself

as far as vid cards, a 9600 pro should be fine i guess. i've never played WoW
 
yea get a better mobo may be some thing with PCI-e and say a 6600GT
im an AMD fan soo im not up on intel mobos ^^

hmm 150 isnt going to cut it if you cna get ~200-250 then a good PCI-e mobo some more mem and a 6200 or 6600 non-GT
 
you could get a cheap 478 mobo, and use your existing 2.4 processor to the fully speed and buy a 6800 standard.
 
the problem is that a good mobo alone is going to be ~75-80 bucks and a good vid card is going to be 150-200 on its own
 
so you guys suggest i should just tighten my belt and try to get a 200 dollar video card roughly? if so whats the best i could do with roughly 200?
 
a 9600 pro can run wow just fine, but you really should get a no mobo, the difference between 1.7 and 2.4 will be very noticable and will definatley help u out in WOW.

If you only plan on getting a vidcard $200 will get you a 6600GT AGP when they come out, o/w a 9800 pro. Or a 9600xt or 9600 pro for ~120-150

what vid card do u have now?
 
welll if you get a PCI-e mobo then a 6600GT would be good
but for AGP 9800Pro wouldnt be too bad
thats if you need some thing right now
at some point the 6600GT will be on AGP just dont know when

id look to budget ~300 when all is said and done ~100 for a PCI-e mobo and 200 for the 6600GT

hmm i cant seem to find any mobo's with PCI-e that arent LGA775 you may want to ask in the intel CPU forum
 
if he gets a pci-e mobo, won't he have to change everything!? mobo + processor + memory + video card...
 
yea ill 2nd that ^^ ~ 300+ shiping is about right ^^ and that should do well for WoW
i play FFXI and haveing a better vid card realy helps if you have to cut cost some were you may want to look at a 9600XT then save up for a 6800nu or the like when the price drops :cool:
