Some time ago I picked up 2 WRT55AG Linksys routers as I needed one to network, and the other as an access point... I figured... perhaps wrongly at the time, that I could just stick the second router in bridge mode and it'd work like an access point and draw and give the IP's from the first router...

I got it working by going from the Internet router, to a hub, then using the hub uplink to go to the secondary router. It worked great...

until I switched to a gigabit switch, which has no uplink port.

Is there any way to configure the secondary router to work as an access point/hub through the switch? Or should I just give up and get an access point without a router built in.

Get a cross-over cable, it'll make any port an 'uplink' port.

oooh goody... I'm gonna need 150 ft crossover cable...

mew... stupid me, just change the cord at the wall over...

Thanks tom61 : i'll try that

It should have autosensing ports, meaning you don't need a crossover. Try putting the AP in AP mode and then hooking it up via a LAN port (not the WAN port). This is how the Dell Truemobile's work - I did it for a client of mine.

Also, I'm sure somewhere on Linksys' site they tell you exactly how to do this.
