Need some Headphone Advice

My first post here :eek:

Currently im using a set of Sennheiser HD 555's, and a headroom Bithead amp. Im looking to return them both this weekend, due to the fact that the left earphone seems to be defective.

What im looking for: A good pair of headphones up to $250 in price, that work great unamped, with my sb audigy2zs. Preferabbly open, but am willing to buy a closed pair if I find a deal.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks :D
 
The HD555's are a really good headphone, just RMA it and get a new set.

Do you have any cheaper (spare) pair of headphones to determine whether or not your HD555's are faulty? If so, return just the HD555's and exchange it. But if the left channel is weak or distorted out of that Bithead even with another set of headphones, then it's your Bithead that's defective. In that latter case, return that Bithead for exchange.

Other than that, most headphones that will work without an amp tend to be those that sound HORRIBLE for the price that you'd be paying for them (bottom-of-the-barrel earbuds and Walkman-replacement headphones; most Sony Vxxx-series headphones).

The Senheisser HD555 and pretty much any other headphone will work without an amd, just plug it into your mini-jack on your sound card.
 
Ive tryed putting my headphones into my sound card, it isnt the amp thats the problem, its the headphones. I think I might just return both though, just to be sure.
 
You could go for the 595's or the Audio Technica A900's. You could also try the Grado SR-225's.

Im pretty sure they are, and id really prefer open as opposed to closed, the only problem is I cant find these HD 595's in stock anywhere for some reason.. anyone know a place where I could find these by chance?
 
Yea they have been released. Some people from other forums just told me that the Sennheiser factory manufacturying these kinds of headphones burned down, and thats why they havent been distributing them as of late.
 
I hear lots of good things about the hd-550's and 580's, of course you would still want your amp for running those..
 
HD497s. Awesome gaming headphones. Sound great unamped, with an amp sound even better.

Grado SR60s/80s are wicked too. Depends what kinda sound you prefer. Like the intense highs with extremely accurate reproduction (yet can get stressing for too long) get the Grados. Wicked for rock, you get right up in the band. Want a more forgiving pair? Sennheisers are that kinda cans, wicked sound imaging... great for classical.

Best thing to do, try them all out at a shop... they are your ears afterall...
 
Ive decided to go with the Audiotechina A900's, its gonna be my first pair of closed headphones, so itll be interesting. I hope they are good unamped and dont need a really expensive amp to drive them however, because I dont plan on buying one right away.
