Need some good dvd encoding software

I currently use nero and more importantly nervision 4 to create DVD's from video files such as AVI and what not. Nero has an issue with XviD type files and audio sync so I cant use it for these types of files so I was wondering if anyone can either tell me a solid fix for this in nero(and turning off the smart encoding did NOT work for me) OR advise me on some really good encoding software that is fairly easy to use. This software needs to handle XviD and AVI very well cause nero is fairly bad at it.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated
