Need some cooling help

Hello,

looking into buying a water cooling system for my PC but don't know too much about it. I've read a little bit, and the little bit I did read was mixed reviews. I want to know if it would be worth buying for my system, and if and how much would it cool my system down.

Heres my system specs:

Asus P5N32SLI-Deluxe Mobo
Intel Xtreme Edition 3.46gHz dual-core 2x2MB cache, 1066MHz fsb
x2 74GB WD Raptor 10k RPM HDD Raid-0
200GB WD HDD
2GB Ram
Nvidia 7800GTX 512MB xfx card

I play Lineage 2, Counter Strike Source, and BF2 all on full details and play for 5-6hrs at a time so it gets my computer really hot sometimes.

Zalman Reserator 1 Plus Fanless Water Cooling System

Thats a cooling system I was looking at, I don't know too much about them so if that isn't a good one can someone suggest a good one? Thanks in advanced
 
if your willing to send that much on at zalman wc system, your better off piecing together a custom kit that will give you better performance.

for starters, Danger Den Store was a 20% off code: PAGLAN06
so take a look at what they have. for most people this setup is enough

TDX cpu block / D5 pump combo
BI GTS 240 radiator
Maze4 gpu block w/ ramsinks - only needed if you want to cool your video card
7/16" masterkleer tubing w/ t-line + fillport

this is basically all you need to keep your computer cooler and quieter.

Basically, I don't care about if its quiet or not.. the computer is in a different area then where I sleep. But I will check that stuff out. Also how much would it kool my system down? I mean will I notice a huge difference in the cooling? And isn't a little risky using a water cooling system in a PC, I mean what if the tubes wear or it develops a leak that'd ruin my system and I'd be s.o.L right?

EDIT: also, what about these settings.. Fitting Size: 1/2 OD Fitting or 3/8 OD Fitting. and Barb Style: High Flow Fitting, or Perfect Seal Fitting? Sorry, I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff. Never did this before

Heh, lots of questions.

First off, the barbs (fittings). There are 2 inner diameters of your tubing that you can choose. Both 1/2" and 3/8" are very popular. Obviously if you chose 1/2" inner (ID) tubing you'd need to choose 1/2" Outer (OD) barbs (because the tubing fits OVER ther barbs). Well, Perfect seal barbs are ones that create a perfect seal with your tubing when using a hose clamp (I think). I like the High-Flow barbs wherever I can get them, as they're easier to put tubing on to.

Personally I like the look of 1/2" barbs over 3/8" barbs... Simply because the 3/8" tubing looks really thin and kinda wimpy :p. There will be very little performance difference between the two.

The above posters recommendation for a setup is a good one. I fully agree with him.

Now what about damage... Well, say a hose leaks... You can avoid this situation entirely by doing 2 things. FIRST use 7/16" masterkleer tubing on 1/2" barbs. The tubing is SLIGHTLY too small (so you need to boil the ends first, just to get them weak enough to slide on) so you get an incredible fit. SECOND you need (well, SHOULD) to use hose clamps. A Worm clamp for 50c from your local hardware store will pretty much prevent any leaking... THIRD use a non-conductive coolant instead of water. Products like PCice and FluidXP (there are others) dont conduct electricity NEARLY as well as water does, therefore these can spill all over a motherboard with very few complications.

Hoses don't "wear" out too lol :p And honestly, that reserator is IMO a joke...

I like my Reserator 1+. It cools my FX60 @ 2.8Ghz and 2 x1900 cards. It can lose its cool on hotter days but they have that large quite add on fan for Reserator 1. The Reserator 2 is coming soon and is even nicer with a power lead that will turn the pump off with the PC. If you are not that into supper over clocking it great as it makes no noise lowered the temps a bit vs. air and takes most all the heat from the GPUs and CPU out of the case, helping to cool other components.

That's great that you like it, but I think his point was that it's not a very compelling value for the money. $229 can buy you a LOT of watercooling in a more "conventional" setup. Better blocks, better pump, etc, and save some floorspace (but then again some people like the tower thing).
