I am going to be taking over the multi-media section of the company I work for. I am getting a list of items together that I need to purchase for this move.

I need a good camera, under $1000 that is SLR and comes with the lens or can be purchased with the lens as in camera / lens combo, but still under $1000

I am looking for a PVR, HD..... Think the Hauppauge 1212 should work fine unless someone can think of something better.

I am looking at a powered usb hub, an external 2TB drive as well as a VHS system that can either record to DVD or to a format (.wmv, .flv)

Is there anything else I should look at?

I already have a computer so dont suggest that =]

Any specific software I should go with, or works best?
 
What does said multimedia section work on?

For a sub-$1000 SLR, you're looking at either the Nikon D3100 or the Canon EOS Rebel T1i plus an additional zoom lens. Each of those cameras comes with an 18-55mm lens as part of its kit. You'll also need to buy memory cards, extra batteries, and an external flash, and all of those items together could easily push the cost of the camera "kit" to well over $1000.

The multi-media section really doesn't work on much to be honest, some pictures here or there, mainly some video recording during "company meetings" that may encompass a total of maybe 2-3 hours max.

Other than that, its converting from one format to another, VHS to dvd, stuff like this.

Also includes some new things I came up with that we are not doing yet at our company, like FAQ's in video format, so I am looking for a good camera that can shoot in HD.
 
You should also pay a visit to the AVS Forum, where you can receive some better recommendations for HD cameras and VHS "converters" (for lack of a better term).
 
Make sure you get a USB3 or eSATA external hard drive. If you're transferring large video files you will be grateful for the higher speeds compared to USB2.
