I am looking for a graphics card to replace my current 7950gt which is passive cooled. I am looking to spend between 100-200 and want one that is either passive cooled or has silent fans. Is there any cards out there that any of you have had a good experience with in this catergory. The rest of the system includes raided ssd's, a phenom 965, and 8gb ram. I am not into overclocking so thats not a concern but I don't want a card that runs excessively hot either. Thanks for your input.

If you're willing to upgrade the card, I recommend the Gigabyte GTX 460. The dual fans at full are still silent.

That passive 6850 is deactivated. You may want to look at the other new 6xxx series cards, sounds like you are after a card for media not games

Wow, that was quick. This card just came out a little bit ago.

obviously modern gaming is not a concern if you were happy with a 7950. just get something like a passive 6450 since that about as fast as your current card while using hardly any power.

That makes sense to me, but given his stated budget it seems like he's looking for an upgrade.

wow that is a massive cooler and yeah the price is crazy for that level of performance. I guess you really have to pay more for silence.

Then again, if the OP will only buy fanless GPUs, this is still in his budget and is faster than his old card.

I bought the Gigabyte 460 SOC. The professional reviews agreed with the consensus that its one of the quietest around. Thanks for the input.

I highly suggest an aftermarket video card cooler. One without a fan. I bought one and never looked back for my ATI 4890.

Anyone having issues with newly purchased Gigabyte GTX 460 cards? The reviewers at newegg rate this card very poor due to an unusually high rate of hardware failure.

If you can find one, ECS Black Edition 460 gtx. It has a fantastic cooler on it. I have veered away for trying to go pure passive cooling on any kind of performance graphics card. The heat buildup is intense, and system fan requirements eat up any savings in eliminating video card fan noise.

When I had it, I had no problems whatsoever.

Let us know if it ends up being silent enough for you.

Yes it has met my needs perfectly and wow do the games run better. I am not a hardcore gamer but my brother plays alot and pretty much everything I have thrown at it runs on max settings 60fps. This is through a 2408wfp at 1920x1200. Thanks for the suggestion, it worked out great. The card is dead silent at idle and under full load unless I put my head near the case under my desk I can't hear it.
