I am setting up a simple torrent/seed box and storage box all in one. to sit in my room and only be accessed remotely for the most part..

I need advice.. on what hardware to get from tigerdirect.ca

Mainly Im trying to find a fair mobo/cpu combo with onboard video for a cheap price.
And I am trying to also find a nice card to control... up to 8 sata drives eventually? cheaper the better as I wish to put the cash into the hdd's

Also am hoping to get something setup so I can add 3 disks to start.. and be able to easily add a new hdd and expand on the array without having to lose data..

can anyone recomend a setup? and or hdd. I plan to buy 500-750 drives and keep the arrays to 2-3tb eventually adding a second of the cards..

advice?

You're better off finding a second hand older computer to run your seedbox. No need for dual core or anything recent-tech. My seedbox runs on an old P3 1Ghz, 256MB RAM. Once you have it setup (mine is connected wireless), it sits in the basement with only a power cable. No cabling, no mess, silent and deadly.

FYI: I usually have 40-80 torrents running on uTorrent, barely any CPU load on XP Pro. Connect through VNC.

How many total drives are you looking at? Something "cheap" (and I use that term loosely) would be the Highpoint 2320, which can go up to 8 disks. However, the price starts at $210 if you can get it on sale. Newegg usually is at $240.

8 is a good round number. and that card seems fair.. i may go for that. but is there a setup where i can add 3 drives to start. as a mass 1.5tb unit.. then later pop in a new drive and easily expand on the over all size. I remember JBOD but not sure if it allows expansion?

i want a bit more power. like a 100 dollar combo into a mobo/cpu as i think i will also run a network share for the storage drive. letting multiple pc's access and stream over the network. so a bit faster would be nicer for me.
vnc would be an option. i am considering. may also go with windows xp media edition if the 360 ever does get support for the xvid.divx codec ass rumored.. hmm but i have a xbox 1 with media so I use that for now :)

Remember though, if you do use OCE (online capacity expansion), that will take far longer to expand than if you do the array completely from scratch.

I'm not 100% if JBOD allows for expansion either. I want to say no though.

It means you can expand your RAID array without having to reformat it.
