i am trying to disabled uneccessary services

If you're concerned about safety, keep it patched, keep it behind a firewall, keep the AV software updated, and don't go opening ports that shouldn't be. Leave the services alone.

Um, almost all the services are turned off by default in 2003. You have to actively turn stuff on from the start.

Not to mention *install* certain items for some services to be present.
