This forum has helped me loads in the past but i know how fast an active thread can turn into a dead one. People who have been trying to help someone, ignores the thread and no help is given. Please read this all and help if you can, i will reply as soon as i see a message.

After my second hard drive kept uninstalling itself and wasnt being recognized by the BIOS or windows 50% of the time, i got a new IDE cable. I installed this and it seems to be working fine (but still too early to tell)
When i did this, i also cleaned out the computer... the video card, sound card and the fans.

After all this, i turned on my pc and all was good, i was on it for 6 hours playing games, watching videos on it, talking all sorts. Then my mouse started acting crazy.... it was stopping and starting, and didnt work everytime, so i rebooted and get this RED MESSAGE on the screen which said this...

You have not connected the power extension cable to your radeon 9800 video card. Please refer to the "Getting started guide" for proper hardware installation

I went inside my pc twice and checked the cables etc, then it was working again and i thought nothing of it. I left it on overnight and my brother went on it in the morning. He signed in to his account and all was fine.
After about an hour on the computer, the mouse acted strange again, the same as last time.... mouse kept stopping and started. So i thought here we go again.

I rebooted and got the same red message. I checked the cables again, restarted and this time the BIOS screen came up saying in the advanced tab to the right in red writing

During the last boot up, your system hung from an improper cpu speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliability, make sure the cpu speed conforms to the specification of your CPU

(The CPU speed in the bios has always been 1667MHz and is right now.)

On the way to the exit tab in the BIOS, i have to pass the tab called BOOT. As i went to pass this BOOT tab, it hung for 5 seconds, while hanging it only displayed 2 of my boot devices, after the 5 seconds of hanging it then displayed all my boot devices and the Plug and play OS settings below. The hanging stopped and i could save and exit the BIOS.

Once i did this, i got this red message again about the extension cable. After rebooting 3 more times, and seeing the BIOS screen once more, windows loaded and i am now able to type this plee for help.

PLEASE help me, i am depending on your help to sort this problem. I am saving up to buy a AMD Athlon 3500, i cannot afford to keep sending it to the computer shop to have them look at it, its expensive.
 
My gut feeling would be that your power supply is dieing, possibly overheating then not supplying enough current for your drives/video card, but that wouldn't explain the IDE cable thing.

What power supply do you have?
 
I just got a new ANTEC case 3 weeks ago, i needed a new PSU as my other one died so i got the PSU with the case. Its a 430watt Antec powersupply. Ive read reviews about it, suppose to be a very good PSU.

I have my sound and video card, cpu, 2 hard drives, 2 exhaust fans at the back, one at the front, one at the side. Could i be using to much power?
 
I would really doubt that the devices you have would be too much for a 430 watt, and the antec is a good PSU. I run a lot more components off my antect 350 watt without issue :)

Did these problems start happening soon after you moved the components to the new case?
 
I moved the components to my new case as soon as i got it, i only got this error yesterday, which is weeks after i did all this.
Like i said i did clean it out and installed a new IDE cable. My computer has been hanging alot recently though. Programs hang for ages before responding, but this is rare.

A friend seems to think its my BIOS chip, could it be?
 
I think fezman is right, it's probaby a faulty PSU. This same thing was happening to someone else a little while ago, and as it turned out it was his PSU getting overloaded. (He had plugged the fan only connector into his vid card.) Make sure that your components are wired so that there aren't too many components on any particular string of plugs, and if that doesn't work, give Antec a call, and get a replacement. It should be under warrenty, so I doubt that they would have a problem with a RMA.

You could try flashing the bios on your board, but a bad board bios wouldn't explain the errors that your video card is giving you.
 
For the first time ever, i updated my seriously out of date bios to the latest version 3 weeks ago. I read the instructions 50 times and from different sites and sources to make sure i was doing it right. I know i updated the BIOS properly, everything checks out.

Since i didnt wire this, my mums boyfriend did (inexperienced with hardware but more experienced than me) i dont know how to see if its wired properly. Its just a big mess in here, my mums boyfriend isnt here.

It could be this, but i dont know how to tell.
 
I'm not sure about the bios chip going bad, but I guess anything is possible. However, a psu going bad (even one with a good reputation) is entirely possible and would probably account for all of these seemingly un-related problems. Do you have another PSU that you could try out to see if it is, in fact, the problem?
 
There is suppose to be air blowing from the PSU at the back is there? Cause i can feel air but its extremely faint. I can barely feel any air at all. But the fan is spinning.

Could this be causing it?
 
You should find/borrow/obtain a multi-meter and check those voltages to see whats up.
 
I dont have a mulitmeter...

I just installed motherboard monitor and rebooted. A blue screen came up before rebooting saying this..

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down top prevent damage to your computer.

I then rebooted and it loaded windows fine.
 
I'd still say there's something wrong with the PSU.. did you try pluggin other connector? also try booting with minimal config - only one HD, no optical drives..
 
Ive rebooted 5 times now, not a single error message or anything.

Ive just rebooted 5 times with the side panel off and ive not got a single error. Taking out devices like cd rom drives etc i dont think is going to prove anything because its now booting without any errors, if i take these out and still get no errors then what? doesnt prove anything.
 
I ran memtest for 2 and a half hours, it completed 3 sets of 12 tests in that time, and i didnt get a single error, it passed all 3 sets.

Since i took the side panel off, i havent gotten an error, I will have to check my PSU for dust because this is the likely cause but im not sure whats the best way to do this
