Hey I am new here, but I have been watching this website for along time. I have seen alot of reviews for every monitor in here, but everytime something looks good, someone brings up a problem with that monitor. I have about $2000 that I am going to spend on building a computer and buying a monitor, but I can go any price for the monitor. I was wondering which monitor should l choose, I use my computer for games, photoshop, building websites, web browsing, and scripting and code since I am a computer science major. I need it be great in all those areas. Also I was wondering, should I wait till Black Friday to get this stuff. I mean I know somethings are cheap then, but I have never tried it before. I went to Walmart a day before Xbox 360 came out to get it and was first in line, so you can count me first. Probably will try Bestbuy for Black Friday. Any suggestions on the entire monitor thing and if I should wait the sales out.Need serious help choosing. Have huge $$$

Here's how I would go about it if you are willing to spend anything of the 2k on monitor

Dell 30inch, $1500 after coupon.

Intel Celeron 2.4ghz
Intel mobo with integrated graphics
750gb seagate hd
2x128 sd ram
dvd-rw
300 watts raidmax powersupply + case

ooops, forgot:

you also need a SATA IDE converter to use the hdd on the mobo

Logitech G15, Logitech VX

this setup would look awesome, the raidmax case is known to attract chicks, it would be very quiet (no case fans), and the monitor will display amazing graphics at high resolution with minimal ghosting in Battlefield 2/ Oblivion.

THe keyboard and mouse and look great

Yea I know, but that goes a little extreme in size, I think 24 inch is max I should go. My desk is also being upgraded so I will get more space. Currently have a glass desk thing that is large but you cant multitask on it because of the shape. I will buy a huge corner desk for it though. I was especially looking between the lgs, dell, nec, and sony. I have a nvidia mx 440 in my current computer which I dont thing can handle the resolution, besides it becoming slow in speed and I want to make alot of upgrades but its using an outdated motherboard. That why I need to build a new computer. But not sure when to start because I might spend everything on black friday since I keep hearing things out how good the deals are. Thanks for the info

I can't believe you actually thought I was being serious.

Here's what I would do myself:

PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 $330
Gigabyte DS3 $150
OCZ 2x 1GB DDR-800 $150 after rebate
ATI Radeon X1900XT $275 after rebate
Seagate 7200.10 400GB SATAII $110 (from outpost)
Antec 550 Server case (buy it from antec bstock, it includes 550 Truepower II psu) $100 shipped
BenQ DW1655 DVD-RW $35

The pc total is ~ 1200.

Now get yourself a nice dell 24 inch for $720, it's on sale right now on Dell Home.

with the rest of $80, get urself a better desk, save like $5 for an issue of playboy and you are set

So the guy games, edits photos, and codes and scripts. Why are you recommending a 500 comp for that stuff. Heck can the onboard graphics even push the resolution the monitor supports. I would say get a 24" Dell, I like mine and don't notice any ghosting (Lag perception is based on the person, not denying that it is there) and spend the $1300 on the comp, You should find the 24 for about $650. Plus I think that two 24" are better then a single 30" right now.

That is my opinion though, 24" is enough to code fine on (C++, Java, C#). Considering I'm also a comp sci major, it will be plenty fine!

Edit:
Apparently no one understood your sarcasm, sorry but there are lots of morons on forums that reccomend rediculous builds but the poster above got the second comp right. 0(^_^)0
