I just finished putting together my first computer and was about to install windows xp when it tells me that i have no hard drive. The thing that is wierd is that when i boot my computer one of the messages shows my hard drive and its hooked up right i have double checked it. Am i missing something that i need to do with a sata hd or is something wrong.

Thanks for the help

Most likely you need to install SATA drivers.

When setup first starts loading files, there is an option to 'Press F6 to load 3rd party drivers'. This is when you need to make sure that you have a floppy with your SATA drivers on in the drive & hit 'F6'. Windows will then load a few more files & ask you to press 'S' to specify drivers.
