Need Recommendations for vga cooler problem

Last night, the fan on my 9800Pro died and in the process, fell off; it actually melted the solder holding the wires to the fan; the card will work for about 3-4 minutes before freezing my system; What is the best action to take? can I replace this fan with a aftermarket cooling assembly? Like the Arctic Cooling Silencer? Will it need to be soldered again? Sorry for all the questions; card is only 6 months old and can't replace the card right now!

I stuck a VGA silencer ($15) on my 9700 Pro and it's way more than necessary to keep it cool. You don't really need the $30 dollar copper versions unless you intend to overclock. The only down side is that it takes up two slots but it runs very cool and quiet. The new fan replaces the wires so you shouldn't have to resolder anything. You'll need to check the number of pins on the fan socket on your 9800 Pro to make sure that it matches the connector on the VGA silencer. Most of them are 2 pins but apparently some are 3 pins. If they don't match then you'll need an adapter.

If the heatsink is completely off of the video card then stop running it until you put on the new heatsink. A 9800 Pro shouldn't be run even in 2D mode unless it has a heatsink. It may be okay in 2D mode with the heatsink attached and no fan spinning but you can damage the GPU by overheating so I wouldn't try it.
 
Thanks Uncle; I ordered the new vga silencer; removed the heatsink and just waiting for it to come; should be pretty easy to install; I just hope that the card wasn't damaged!!
 
After you removed the heatsink check to see if you have an r360. If it is with this new cooling you are getting you can more than likely get xt speeds.
 
sorry to Hijack this thread, but i most certainly have the same situation except it's 9800XT and my fan still works but i just want to change the who fan w/ VGA or anything that could fit to 9800XT and resolve my overheating problem..

so my question, would the VGA silencer works to 9800XT? or is there any particular VGA cooler for 9800XT i should get? (id like to overclock it as well since this badboy hasnt overclock ever since)
