I'm asking this for a friend and would like to get some suggestions and recommendations.
There are some parts he would like to have as part of the build:
- Corsair 800D case ($230 at Microcenter and Newegg also has some combo deals)
- Blu-ray drive
- Mild overclocking so maybe a 3rd party CPU cooler will be needed
- TV tuner with remote so maybe something from Happauge
- Modular power supply.
- Futureproofing. Wants to last 4 to 5 years as a workstation.
Thank you for your time.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Workstation tasks, MS office, moderate Photoshopping, web browsing, watching HD movies, heavy multitasking at time.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$2300, not including shipping and tax
3) Where do you live?
Southern CA, have Fry's and Microcenter near
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Everything except monitor, keyboard, mouse.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Not reusing anything except monitor
6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Already has 28" LCD (1920 x 1200)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within 2 weeks
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
He would like to have Raid, eSATA, Firewire, and USB 3.0. Other than that, no need to crossfire or SLI since no games will be played.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Will need Windows 7 Ultimate x64, which will be part of the $2300 budget.
