Hello!
My router is the Cisco Linksys E2500 and it is located upstairs very close to being the room above where the computer (HTPC) is located on my basement. I wouldnt mind getting the best speeds possible but if it gets crazy expensive, I will just with something good enough.
My previous mobo had a wifi built in but the new one I am getting do not, so I need a USB or PCI (not pcie) adapter recommendation for Windows 8.1
Thanks!

Don't go with any USB wireless adapter, get a decent PCI one.

Powerline network adapter?

Much better than Wi-Fi, not quite as good as a direct wired cable.

Just remember, you won`t get 500Mbps out of a set of 500Mbps Powerline adapters, likewise, you won`t get 200Mbps out of a 200Mbps set.

You may get ~200Mbps out of the 500Mbps set though, certainly enough for streaming all but the biggest un-compressed blu-rays.

Best option, run a cable.
