Hey I am in the market for an external hard drive that will primarily be used on my Macbook. I use this computer a lot for video editing. I hear 7200rpm is a must for this use. I've been looking at the Lacie drives... but am getting mixed reviews on those.

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Thanks.

I suppose it really depends on the amount and level of video editing you will be doing. From what I've heard (it may have changed since I last heard), Lacie drives are great for video editing done with an Apple system, mostly because of the Firewire and speaking of which, Firewire is what you will want (of course).

Alternatively, the WD My Book's are looking great in my opinion. I have a friend that owns a MacBook and a WD My Book and she absolutely loves it. They do have their fair share of performance drives, it's all a matter of finding what's best for you.

well here is a quesiton I have regarding firewire drives.

I only have firewire 400 in my macbook... is that even better than USB as far as bandwidth/speed goes?

Shouldn't I just go with a USB instead since I only have firewire 400?
