ok my situation is i am building a large raid 5 array with 8 750GB drives, and well i plan to start out with only 4 drives and expand it to 8.

I need a raid card that can do raid 5, do dynamic raid (for adding disks later without having to restart the array), has 8 ports and costs around 250$.

Please help :D

Might help if we knew the interface (SATA/SAS/etc.) drives and type of expansion slot (PCI/PCI-X/PCIe) available.

The Highpoint 2[23]20 cards sound like a match, pending more information. Take a look at the controller guide I wrote and see if anything pops out at you.

yea originally i chose the 2320, but i wasnt sure if it could handle dynamic disk adding into an array. it fits my needs, my price range, in a setup for media storage where speedy access isnt too much of a concern

Every HighPoint card I've ever tested could saturate gigE in Bonnie++ tests. They are well suited for the majority of applications. Not suitable for hardcore DBs (although they do have fast hardware XOR cards) but for everything else should suit you fine.
