A guy bought my 19" CRT monitor off ebay and I sent it to him, everything went well, the monitor worked perfectly when I sent it to him. The only reason I sold the monitor is because I got a 17" lcd for Christmas. Well the guy emailed me back and thanked me for how well it was packed etc but he said it didnt work. Could the really cold temperatures effect anything with it? I figured if he plugged it in and cut it on if it came with a blank screen and let it warm up and then plug it in maybe that would work.

Let me know guys,

Thanks alot,
Blake

Was there any insurance on the shipping?

I dont know I was reading the reciet and it said something like value= 100 bucks which is even low, but I saw that.. maybe thats insurance but all that is besides the fact.

Would the cold weather really make it not work?

It was shipped from VA to OHIO, only took like 2 days.

Did they guy get into more detail. Did he say if it was able to power up, show a LED light on the power button, did the tube come but not show a picture? Or was it just basically dead, no life in it no matter how miniscule?

You mentioned warming it up, so did that mean it turned on somewhat?

"God, I hate leaving you this message, but the monitor is NOT working. You did such a nice job packing it, but after I took it out of the box and let it warm up a bit. I plugged it into my system and all the monitor does is turn on with no picture. It just seems like its not getting any signal to the video card. I'm still going to play with it, its just what I was looking for, but WOW, I can't believe its not doing anything."

That is what the guy sent me in email!

ask him if the pins are different on the vga connector from his old monitor. i've had that happen before-- the monitor isn't bad, it's just that the comp can't communicate with it properly. the monitor will come on for about a half sec and then go into power-save (acts like there's no signal)

Okay guys, ive sent him the email, so yall know for a fact that there is no way the monitor could be bad because of the cold weather, it was working perfectly fine when I sent it off, and if its coming on it seems like it would be fine.

I guess he couldn't of had the system set to a higher res or frequency than it could support, but he would still at least get some kind of bios screen and windows start-up before it loses signal.

Best thing for him to do is try it on another computer, and check the pins with the one he had before like that guy said.

So basically troublshoot it with him before concluding anything.

I've had that happen a few times, can't remember the circumstances or how the problem was solved, but the monitors were not broke.

Alright can you try to think of what wrong because he is about to call me and I need to tell him what he should do.

Oh on second thought I think once the VGA connector had a bent pin and once it was because the power cord was bad.

Chris

Alright, I just talked to the guy and he said everything is fine except the monitor is just not getting a picture. he said he moves the mouse and he guesses where his log in is and I guess he found it and he said it powers up its just not getting a picture.

Can anyone help?

Update, he said that when he plugs it in and all when he starts up his comp the monitor clicks and goes off and the led light flashes yellow and green.

The monitor is a compaq mv920.

I need one of you guys help, Ive searched hp, google and everything!

Thanks again guys,
Blake

Man I feel bad for you,but I'm totally stumped.I'll try to keep this up for you though.

Chris

something ain't right, that's for sure. a click and then it goes into power-save? hmmm...

that sounds to me an awful lot like the tube itself is borked.

that means it's in "power-save" mode.

basically what it is is it's not recieving an intelligible signal from the comp, or it's recieving the same signal for a certain amount of time (about like 5-10min) and it just shuts the tube off (the most power-hungry bit) until the signal from the computer changes.

the light blinks or turns orange to let you know that it's not totally off, just "asleep".

Alright he says its blinking yellow and green, and I dont think it would have gone bad because it worked perfect when I shipped it off. Maybe he has it hooked up wrong even though its not hard to hook up a monitor.

He called hp and talked to them that is the last time I talked to him around 1:30 pm, and he hasnt called me back so hopefully he got it resolved.

it could have been damaged in shipping, or it could have just spontaneously decided to die.

who knows?

Would the cold weather mess up the tube?

unlikely at best, unless it was practically ten seconds from dying before it was exposed.

i would guess that he's going to need a new high-voltage power supply put in it, based on what little i know about how monitors work and the symptoms i'm hearing.

it'd most likely be cheapest for him to go out and buy a new one... unless he simply charges the repair costs to you. that seems fair to me, since you promised him a working monitor, and, well, it doesn't work. it's not your fault, but it doesn't work.

I think he must have figured it out cause he hasnt called me and he talked to hp at like 2 oclock.

Probably something simple that he didnt do right.

It worked fine on my comp.... so he can pay to ship it back and ill refund him his money but I dont think he wants to go that route because I told him we could do that and he was like naw I hope we dont have to go that route.
