Hi everyone,

I need an external card reader to mod into the top of my stacker case (no option for 5.25 or 3.5 bays as I lack the room). I've found a few that are low profile and small overall size as I require, however I've had some bad experiences with slow card readers. My first thought is to stick with known brands like sandisk or verbatim, but that doesn't always garuantee anything. I am having great difficulty finding realiable information about card readers that are fast and free of data corruption issues. I'm certainly willing to pay the price premium over the standard fare of readers found on newegg. Anyone have some suggestions here? I'm primarily interested in SD and CF speeds. Thanks!

I lack the room. I said so within the first sentence. Thanks for trying, tho.

Sorry, I meant to say get one that fits in a 5.25" bay and mod it on. This way you could wire it into your case instead of taking up a usb slot. Its harder to mod on usb parif's than internal ones.

Another thought is to just get a usb box reader and put it in a drawer when you aren't using it.

Just food for thought.

I will have a lack of internal usb headers (motherboard has 4x internal headers and 6x back usb ports, front panel usb will use up the internal headers). Going to run the regular cable out the back of the case via a stealthed slot and have it plug into the back of the motherboard. I guess a 5.25 bay would be fine so long as I can switch it with a regular external usb cable, except the card slots are usually spread out and include extra things like firewire and usb ports. Let me clarify what I really meant to ask, with two simple pieces of criteria:

1. Needs to be small form factor, thin and with the slots close to one another.

2. Quality! The main thing I'm looking for is some confirmed fast and reliable readers - why have 60x or whatever sd cards if the reader only REALLY does 5x (all any product ever does is specify USB 2.0's maximum 480mbps speed)

Look forward to any recommendations! :D
