I just got a new Hanns-G 21.6" monitor at staples when they had them for $160AR/AC. Now there are several pixels that seem to work okay, but wont display some colors? I dont really know how to explain it, but its like every now and then, they just go red depending upon which color is supposed to be displayed. It hasnt done this until today and ive had it for 2 weeks. Any suggestions, should I take it back and have them replace it?

I would, they sound quite distracting.
Do it soon in case they have a quick return policy that doesnt last long.

I think what you have are subpixel defects, meaning only one or two of the three pixel units comprising a full pixel are dead.
How many of those defects do you have?

There are A LOT. not just one or two spread out. theyre all over the place and dot my screen when displaying certain colors. I think I will take it back. thanks for the info!!

Okay, I got it replaced, but the problem is still the same!!!!!!!!
After playing with it, it seems like my computer has trouble displaying certain colors or something???? It is a new build with an 8800GT OC, so I really don't know what the problem would be. I took a screen shot, then pasted into Paint and red dots remained in the same places as before, when I moved the image the dots move too. Its like it can't display the colors. What can I do to try to fix this?????

Try the monitor on a different computer. If you did a screen cap and the bad pixels move with the picture, then I think that rules out the monitor. Perhaps you have something wrong with your video card? Maybe you've pushed the clock too high on the video card?

O.O.

that's basically defect 2 of 2 possible
you should definitely try another PC

for the video-card:
check if it sits tightly in the socket
check the cable (or try another one)
do you have worn out or bent connectors?
check heat production / cooling of the Geforce
try another DVI connector on the Geforce
OC'd too high?

if it's all okay, the 8800 would be the part to RMA

Okay, Ill try you guys' suggestions. I think it is probably my DVI-HDMI cord. It is a cheap one from monoprice.com. Before I had ordered it, I used a VGA hookup and it seemed to work okay. I hadn't thought of it before because I installed a different operating system and was still in the process of getting everything setup and hooked up. I do not have the graphics card OC'd at all:eek:, so I don't think it is my card either. I will test it with another computer and the VGA hookup when I get a chance and see if that works better. Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Static errors that remain the same wont be caused by a probability of failure as that would result in random errors.
What I'm trying to say is that this wont be caused by the video cable itself as it isnt capable of making errors appear in the same place all the time, cable errors are defined as a probability of certain events occuring.

The errors are definite and non changing so are caused by an actual fault with something that is capable of resolving individual pixels or groups of pixels.

By all means try a different cable, I'd love to be proven wrong but I dont think it will help.
The problem is more likely to be down to the digital transmission/reception circuits on the graphics card or the monitor.

This is assuming the graphics card is 100% ok on analogue.
Clearly if the problem occurs on analogue too, its down to the graphics card only and is likely to be a memory or data line issue.

Why are you using a DVI-HDMI on a monitor, just use a DVI-D cable.

It's a Hanns-G 216DBP, it doesnt have a DVI hook-up. I wanted one, but it was a very cheap 22" that I got at Staples, so I had to settle for HDMI and VGA.

I see, well try the D-sub (15 pin VGA) and see if the issue remains. It is quite possibly a bad cable. If you already have a DVI-D cable laying around, you can get one of these for less than a new cable...

i don't think that's really an issue, your HDMI is just as 'digital' as a DVI would be
it's only a matter of the right cables

get a DVI -> HDMI readymade cable, that's the best shot at zero issues

Crap. It looks like it's my Graphics card. It has 2 DVI out ports so I simply plugged my DVI-HDMI cable into the other one and the little red dots disappear. Luckily I ordered it from Newegg so I should be able to get it taken care of without having to jump through hoops. Thanks for your help everybody. Time to go make a phone call!
