Need opinions/info: Music Industry's exploits in MP3 age

I've been researching the topic of the way the music and movie industries have been dealing with the popularity downloading media online for a paper I'm writing.

Do you have any thoughts or insight on their methods such as suing universities, DRM, putting damaged files on file sharing websites etc? If so, please share, I need opinions, or any interesting information
