My Klipsch 2.1's are finally dead... I've decided that i am not going to go through the trouble of having them repaired but instead, replace them.

The thing is, i am willing to spend up to say.... 350 bucks on these speakers, which puts me right in the price range of the klipsch ultras.

I need to justify spending that much money though. What about the z680s? Is the sound difference that much? Also, are there any maybe 2.1 alternatives?

I'm looking for good sound quality, and Powerful, rich bass.

Also, how long are the wires to connect the rear channels? If i had to say, rout them around my room... are they long enough for that?

well, the promedias play a bit deeper and have a much fuller sound. although the build quality of the ultras and far superior to the z680s, which may die on you at any point in time. maybe in the first 2 hours of light use like they did for me.
 
O i see... is that possibly why they are priced so resonably (200 bucks)?

I'll probably just get the ultras, they seem like my best choice. Is the SUB more powerful than the one with the promedia 2.1's, because it looks like it is.
 
Go Promedias, settle for nothing less, unless you want 7.1 then Creative makes a competent set.

yep. the logitech are cheap because they use cheap amplifiers and other components which break very easily. also note for the price you get a digital decoder and all that. they have to pay for it somehow while still making a profit, so they skimp out on components to give you a lower price, but then the quality is horrible.

here's how the promedia ultra sob stack up to the promedia 2.1sub

Promedia 2.1 sub:
FTC Rated Subwoofer: 50 watts @ ≤ 7% THD, 40 - 100 Hz
Single 6.5" Driver

Promeida Ultra sub:
FTC Rated Subwoofer: 170 watts @ ≤ 3% THD, 40 - 100Hz
Dual 8" Drivers

Just curious to all those out here, when did the ratings change to FTC? The promedia ultras used to be rated at 25Hz to 100Hz for the sub, and the 2.1 sub was rated at 31Hz. seems the klipsch ratings are far more optimistic. nevertheless, the klipsch speakers are very good.
 
Are you sure??? I could have sworn that the Sub on my 2.1's was rated higher than 50watts? I thought it was atleast 80 because the system was advertised as 200watts overall power?


Oh and nice... dual 8" drivers :D
 
Haha, yeah. I got those numbers straight from the klipsch website. Actually they have two sets of ratings. One set of ratings is from Klipsch, the other rating set it FTC. I'd think FTC is more accurate, since the klipsch ratings seem to be a bit out of the ballpark, expecially for the sub extension. its also interesting how the klipsch and FTC ratings could be so far apart, especially on the 2.1s. I think Klipsch previously rated the 2.1 sub at 130 W, but its FTC rated at 50 W
 
Hmmm alright...

First off, can I run these speakers in a "3.1" setup? I don't have a sound card right now seeing as it was fried by my sister... Poor little turtle beach santa cruz... you were so good.

Also, can anyone comment on the length of the wires included for the rear satalites?

Actually the z560's were the ones with that problem. I have yet to have a problem with my z-680's at all. Although I do prefer the sound of the Klipsch better because they are just simply better :). Well, when I heard them in the store at least. My point is, get the speakers you can afford, you won't regret it. That's the justification, you'll enjoy it. It's not money wasted if you love your investment.

$350, eh? This puts you within shouting distance of a refurb receiver and real speakers. I think that it'll sound pretty good coming from your TBSC.

I'm sorry to hear about the demise of the TBSC. I'd post interest for a used Revo at Head-fi or at the [H] FS/FT forum. It's really an excellent card for feeding a receiver good analog signal. You'll want bass management.
 
might not be a bad idea. not sure how much better than the klipsch they would be but its nice to have a receiver to play with, and then you can upgrade certain components as you wish. good flexibility :D

Thats nice and all, but im really not looking for something that big... i'd rather just stick with computer speakers... heck, i dont think i have any room for a receiver, and i like the sub to go under my desk so...
 
Honestly. The speakers and subwoofer on the tykes are about as big as the PMs. They also come with wall mounting hardware.
