I need a new RPG to play through. I am thinking about Dungeon Siege 2 but I wanted to see if there were any other good options out there.

Dungeon Siege 2 is great, but be prepared for horrible frame rates with a 6800 type card.

Is that during large battles because my 6800GT runs it just fine at 16x12 with 4x FSAA.

I'm currently playing The Bard's Tale. Although the controls aren't really good the story is quite amusing. I find the talking in that game really funny, that's why I like it. Until Oblivion comes out that will keep me busy a bit...

No kidding Dungeon Siege 2 is awesome right now, reminds so much of Diablo 2, ah those where the days. And I do drop to 8 fps in some battles in the forests of Aman Lu :( on 6800, Ill tell you when I get my 6800GT.

I went from Everquest I to EQ2. There have been times when it has threatened to overtake ALL of my spare time. If you are into the "Dungeons and Dragons" style of games, it cannot be beat.

EQ2 is a fully immersive game with many many storylines that you can choose to follow or not. Also the tradeskills aspect which allows you to become a builder/crafter. You can collect ingame items and refine them into items that people actually need and buy from you.

I upgraded from EQ1 to EQ2 about 10 months ago and have yet to see 50% of the maps available now. And an expansion pack is set to be released in September. Should be interesting. Set to release in September and it is set in a desert (9/11...afghanistan)

World of Warcraft seems to edge it out in popularity. I think its because of the Anime/ cartoonish graphics, that are more popular. EQ2 seems more "realistic" with its character models.

OH! An RPG topic, right up my alley. Got a website link for it?

www.ddo.com <- perhaps one based on the original license might beat it ;)

I really doubt the cartoony graphics have anything to do with WoW being so popular compared to EQ2. It's more like people would rather sit down for short periods of time and ACTUALLY accomplish something other then a boring grind that gets you nowhere.

I bought both games. So yea, I like the look and feel of WoW over E2. I wouldn't say it looks like anime though. But definatly more cartoonish.

Here is the official site of The Bard's Tale. Point your mouse over the character on the main screen and open up your speakers to hear them say some stuff.

Edit:
Even if you don't like the game or not interested in it I suggest you click on the "goods" a couple of time and see what happen. Might make you laugh. I know I did :p

Well a lot of people are complaining about poor fps with 6800s in DS2 at even low resolutions. I get the same problem >_>.

im playing ds2 right now. i have a 6800gt pci express. graphics could be a bit better however they are great in the dungeons ie the crypts and caves. i like how you can feed your pet items you dont need. plus he can carry stuff that you can sell. :D

Well there's a few threads here and a giant one on another forum where people are complaining about the fps.

I just thought that the artwork in EQ2 was terrible. I didn't like the way anything looked. If you want good looking realistic, see HL2.

A bunch of people have been saying Dungeon Siege II , but is it still as linear as the first one? I know if is heavily an RPG but with the linear storyline it feels like more of a hack and slash action game after a while.

The best game coming out (that I know of) is Oblivion. It looks amazing which means it will be
very immersive hopefully. I played Morrowind which was very open ended more than any game I have played. The one thing I didnt like is that the world seemed largely unpopulated and i did not see many creatures in the short time i had played it. The screenshots of Oblivion seem to have very very nice environments with some really cool looking models. No clue of when the release will be tho.

I'm also hearing some good things about dungeon siege 2. Is it single player only tho, or free online play?

So... DS II is like Diablo II? Do you play one person, or do you have to control a whole "party"?

Only played the demo, but it's alot like D2 at least to me. Teammates/pets will fight on their own, but you can click on them to select them if need be. The gameplay is pretty much like the original dungeon seige if you've played it though...
While it's not a stellar game, it's not really that bad and is fun imho...

For me its all about Oblivion, can't wait for that game to come out. I'm kinda interested in Fable as well which comes out in September.

There is also the game fate that got released a couple of moths ago that looks very interesting. It is only available through online purchase/download at like 20$. It is a Diablo clone really well made so if you like the series, you gonna like this one. I would buy it but I'm waiting for the next patch where there won't be any software running in the background even if you're not playing...

For those who can't wait for Oblivion, there is a new fan interview on the official forum. I read everything I find about Oblivion and this was the best source of info I had since the start of the summer! The amount of information contained was awesome

I like dungeon siege 2 another real "deep" game is Dungeon and Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil lots of character customization. crap load of spells and itemz, keep you busy for nights...

Fate is awesome - and runs on mild PCs too. I played it a lot, and I still come back to it when I'm getting p0wnd in BF2 and need a relaxing break. Whats nice about Fate is that the upper (meaning easier) levels repopulate quickly, and if you find yourself getting killed too often, you can go back a few levels, replay the easier level, and gain some experience points - then come back when you are a bit stronger.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Guild Wars (though I didn't read every post carefully.) It's multiplayer and single player (I only play single or coop, no PvP.) I was playing DS2, but now it's on hold while I play GW. Quite the fun game. Excellent graphics, tons to do, HUGE world, easy to pick up and put down, etc. etc. When playing solo, it's actually a lot like Diablo or DS, but with a lot more to do.
