My Rig has been running since 2019. Crystal Disk as of a couple months ago said my M2 PCIE SSD ( was in my budget in 2019 ) had 7% life left. I had read into this on the interwebs and it appeared to be that it was actually 7% depleted and thus, still perfectly good.

However I've noticed the performance fall off quite a bit lately so I think I need new, and a size upgrade since I only bought a 240gb

The drive I have is a Kingston SA400 which I understand ( now ) is a bit of a turd.

I have a GB Aorus B450M with a R5 3600 and 16gb of 3200 ram and an RX 6700 XT. Basic decent gaming system. So anything as fast or faster but also more reliable than this PCIE SA400 would be good enough.

Any suggestions?

Also I've never cloned an M2 drive so I don't even know what USB adapter to get

I need a new one and can't decide either. Go really cheap or get a good pcie4 drive - which can be anywhere between $20 - $50 more.

Since all you're doing is cloning just about any of those USB adapters on amazon would work fine.

I need both an adapter because I only have 1 slot, But I also need recommendations for a drive that is cloneable.... I was going to go for a Sabrent rocket but apparently there are 4kb vs 512kb block issues with cloning. Thinking a major brand is probably the way to go
SK Hynix?
Samsung 970 Evo? I pretty much know this is a gold standard but do I actually need that?
Mushkin?

I just don't know... My mobo is gen 3 only

Sabrent have a tool on their site for the Rocket to convert between 4K and 512bytes/sector.
I converted mine to 512byte before restoring my Windows OS image its worked great for 2 1/2 yrs.
Since then have bought 2 more, all are great performers and the prices made me smile.
Get the tool here, its the SSC:

ps
if you need to make a USB drive from it, I did this late last year to one of my drives with a USB to NVME adapter from Amazon.
If getting an NVME 3.0 adapter, look for the RTL9210 controller chip, others are older, can overheat and are not as reliable.
There may be newer chips, I havent researched since.
Hopefully someone else will pipe up with new information :)

I found some slightly more recent info on USB enclosures here
https://graphicscardhub.com/best-nvme-usb-adapter/
Mine is the **********, it comes with USB 3 and USB C adapters, both end with USB C.
This let me use it on 2 machines, only plugging the drive to the cables (which are left plugged to the machines), handy and much easier with no front USB ports.

Haha, the *'d out word is O-r-i-c-o, why on earth thats banned is beyond me?!

I ended up with a SK Hynix gold P31 because it was within a couple bucks of the Sabrent Rocket while it was on sale but reviews show it as splitting hairs speed wise Vs a much more expensive 970 Evo
