Need new headphones....

Well, my mp3 player along with my hd202's got jacked when I was in Vietnam.... now I need a new pair of headphone... I am wondering if the HD497's are the best I can get for UNDER 50 bucks? I am looking at the ones from amazon,,

I ordered refurb 515's from ecost for $45; they have refurb 497's for $33 there. This is before $6 handling charge and anywhere from $2-$12 for shipping though. I am no audiophile, but I do like to snatch a good deal when I see one.

I would contact your local audio stores / computer stores and see if they have any on display or in the box. Try them on and see how they feel and if you get a chance listen to them.

They have the fake leather earpads, so they may get hot after extended usage (20+ mins).
They have similar characteristics of the Sennheiser HD280pro as for as general sound goes.

They are very in your ear, especially for open headphones. I could go on and on, but for 50$ its not worth the effort unless you really want to know. To sum up, for 50$ they are good enough. I'm not 100% sure if they are the "best", but they are decent. They are also light enough to carry around with you.

A completely diffrent sound then the cheaper sonys... more refined... although whether or not you like their sound is up for debate until you hear them ^_^.

Although, there are many cheap headpones I have no listend to. If I personally was looking for some cheap ones, I would be sure to listen to the Beyerdynamic DT231 before I got one. Headphone.com seems to like them, and its near your price range, and to top it off they have those wonderfuly soft velour ear pads.
