So my Radeon 9600 xt recently died...evident by the fact the computer goes into safe mode 5 min after start up, with message about a device failure. This also happens on any computer I put the card into. I assume it is dead, but if anyone knows of a fix, I would appreciate it.

Since this card is supposidly dead, I need a new card, price limit $150, can anyone recommend something more reliable?
 
Try the video card in another computer and see if it'll boot. What info does Windows say about the device failure? It should give a file name and we can identify what file is associated with the device. Check the Event Viewer to refer back to the error message. You could get an eVGA 6600GT for $157 on pricewatch
 
In my other computer I get the same error...I think the card is overheating, but I'll reinstall it when I get back from work and let ya know the error, thanks for the advice.
 
Get a new video card either 9800 pro <--- around 130 bux on newegg or 6600 GT <--- a little over ur limitation on pricewatch, but worth the money btw.
