So currently i have Logitech LS11 speakers http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/4252

Lol i know you guys are probably laughing. They have been great for the past few years, but now the main right speaker is going out every once in a while and i have to blast itunes from it for it to turn back on. So im on the market for new (better quality grade) 2.0 speakers.

Any recommendations? Best bang for buck? I honestly dont know much when it comes to PC speakers, iv always had cheap ones so i have no clue if great ones cost $150 or $300. I say 2.0 by the way because i dont have room for the subwoofer so il just stick to two speakers.

Thanks guys.

Another question is, what is a good sound card? I have only ever used the onboard sound card on my PC's and I game quite a bit on my rig so i figure maybe a sound card would enhance my audio experience.

How much space do you have? If you're limited on space, consider the Creative Gigaworks T40 II.

Yeah i am short on space so speakers like those are great. Pricey, but do you think they are worth the price? (im assuming high end speakers show their true colors with a great sound card)

How much space do you have exactly? Might be best to get a small T-amp and hook up a nice pair of Bookshelves. Again, size permitting.

Sound cards help, but modern onboard sound is much better than in years past. Try it out with onboard first.

If you can get bigger speakers there are a lot more options out there, but for a small set of speakers, I think the T40 II's are worth the money. If $145 is too much, look for them used on Audiogon or eBay.

Those T40 II's are perfect size wise (width being the restriction not height), i could probably go wider, (twice the width of the T40 II's) Any other majorly popular options that are a bit bigger or bookshelf style would be great to see. I'll check ebay and see how much they are. $144 isnt ridiculous but it aint cheap either.
Good to know about the onboard sound, thanks.

AudioEngine A2's might work for you as well, but they are $200.

AV40 - $150
A2 - $200
BX5a - $250
RP5 - $300

Those are all retail prices. You can find them cheaper at sales/craigslist/ebay etc. As for sound cards, Id stick to Asus for music and Creative for gaming.

Thanks guys, im deffinitly leaning towards the AV40 but the options and details being given is very helpful.

I'll admit I haven't heard the Creative T40 speakers, but I'm going to venture that the AV40's are well worth the $40 extra. It's impossible to deny the laws of physics. Tiny speakers can't be that good.

The AV40's can be had for $130 on sale, and I caught 2 different sales at $130 shipped and $85 for a pair refurbed. They are great little speakers.

Can't speak for the Creative T40s, but my wife has the T20s....you would be hard pressed to find a better 2.0 speaker setup for under $100. My full review can be found here.

If the M-Audio AV40s are anything like the AV20s then I'd steer clear.

3x now I've had my AV20s replaced due to a failed internal component.

Each time I lose 1 speaker when both are connected to each other & then the PC.
Individually the work fine. But with this poor experience I won't buy another m-audio product.

Rotten luck, but you're delusional if you buy a company's bottom of the barrel product and expect them to be the same quality as higher end product. After all, there are many bad reviews on the AV20's at amazon.

If you have a Guitar Center by you, you can pick up the KRK RP5s for $99 each re-certified.

I've got the Swans D1010MKII paired up with a tSc ASW-8 sub and Asus Xonar DX. It sounds great, has lasted me about 2.5 years now, and wasn't too expensive.

Swans D1010MKII - ~$125

cant find link for the asw-8 right now, i think its discontinued. but it was ~$100

Asus Xonar DX - got mine for ~$60 w/ mail in rebate

Look at the Fostex PM line, the 0.4's will out perform the AV-40s and can usually be found cheap on ebay, not sure about how much space they take up though.

OP what did you end up doing?

Nothing yet, speakers (current ones) havent been acting up lately and i have been getting lots of recommendations here , and a lot of comments on the Creative GigaWorks T40 Series and if they are reliable in quality or not so that has made me question myself a bit more, considering your paying $100.

for a $100 pair of speakers when I bought them @ Microcenter...they aren't bottom of the barrel IMO.

and a product should work regardless of it's cost or public opinion on ranking w/in a companies hierarchy of products.

By your standard, if you bought a Ferrari F430 you shouldn't expect stellar performance b/c it's Ferrari's lowest end model...
