ok so my 900w ups i have had for 6 years now is starting to show it w limits. since i have gotten my 6950cf when i put them to full load im just under the limits of my ups and when i over clock them im tripping my ups. Im looking for a unit that is 1500w to 2kw so that i have head room and can put my 42 in plasma tv on it while im at it.

Are you sure you need that much power? Seems like a lot.

Here's one that could work:

http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT2200&total_watts=50

You'll need a dedicated 20 amp outlet for it. (T slot neutral)

As for 2kw, you're looking at a beasty unit, such as this:

http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT3000&total_watts=50

You'll need a dedicated 30 amp twist lock outlet for that.

I just looked quickly on APC's site, I do not have first hand experience with those particular units, though.

Another option is an inverter charger such as this:

http://www.xantrex.com/power-products/inverter-chargers/freedom-sw-2000.aspx

You could probably wire that inline with the electrical outlet so it sits in the basement somewhere. I've never used these but I've thought of getting one for myself.

1500W or VA?

For 1500 VA I would recommend an APC SmartUPS 1500 XL. You can get these beasts at eBay for under $200 shipped for reconditioned units with new batteries. I highly recommend these. They are server grade and have a much longer runtime than most consumer grade products because the have 2 18AH 12V batteries instead of 2 7AH 12V batteries that consumer grade units come with. I have a SmartUPS 1400XL myself and a few other similar models at work. They weigh about 55lb.

For 1500W, like Red Squirrel said this may be harder because a lot of these higher power units require a special outlet and special wiring that is not commonly found in a residential house in the US. You need 12 AWG copper wire or heavier with a 20A breaker and a special 20A receptacle .

1500w+ i have a 1500va ups already that just doesn't cut it when i put my pc under 100% load. as for the wiring already have 12 and a 20 amp beaker just for my pc i could easily change out the outlet or even pull some 10 for a 30 amp circuit so that no big deal. that inverter would that function like a online ups where your always pulling form the batteries and then just charging it? or would they be like a regular ups? im thinking that a good inverter might be the way to go as i all ready have 4 good 12v deep cycle batteries that i have used for about a year since my built in ups batteries died and rigged up the deep cycles batteries. how clean is the power form and inverter vs a ups?
